A Modern Tool for Blast-Resistant Design
There is an increasing requirement for architects and engineers to consider blast resistance as part of the design process. Unfortunately, many of the available tools are not well suited to modern design practices and workflows. This is particularly acute on projects that rely on a Building Information Model (BIM) that may be updated hundreds or thousands of times through out the design process.
BlastKit was developed to support modern design workflows, and features direct integration with Trimble SketchUp (Revit models are easily exported in SketchUp format). Because BlastKit automates the process of synchronizing building geometries, calculating loads (including envelope/perimeter calculations), and assessing response - it makes updating blast loading and response profiles for new design iterations extremely efficient. What used to take an engineer hours or days can now be done in minutes - with greater fidelity and accuracy - and ultimately helps support the construction of safe buildings and infrasctucture.
The BlastCore C++ Library
The blast loading and structural response calculations in BlastKit are performed by Synthetik's integrated BlastCore C++ library. The library provides fast, efficient and validated methods to rapidly generate blast loads on 3D structures, and includes methods of assessing structural response and potential damage at the component level.
Multiple verification and validation studies have been performed, and demonstrate the accuracy and practical applicability of BlastKit and the BlastCore C++ library. BlastKit is currently used by engineers on high-profile projects in the United States and internationally.
